Ugali
Smooth, firm maize-flour staple. Tear, scoop and enjoy with any stew.
Ugali and pondu, warm chapati, crispy sambaza and nyama choma, cooked the way Mama makes it at home. Pull up a chair; everyone is family here.
Mama Zawadi’s Kitchen is a small, family-style restaurant in North Knoxville serving the dishes of East Africa and the Congo.
Whether you grew up eating ugali with your hands or you are trying pondu for the first time, you are welcome here. Come for a plate after church, bring the kids on a weeknight, or call ahead for a big family order.
We are happy to explain any dish, and to tell you which ones go best together.
